Because U.S. Rep. Kay Granger helps control the purse strings for both the Defense Department and the State Department, it should not be surprising that Gen. David Petraeus might want to sit down with her to discuss operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and the turmoil of the Middle East.

Except it was surprising to Granger, who is used to sharing her time with the U.S. Central Command leader with other congressmen. (more…)

MESSAGE FROM KAY: THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DON’T LIKE OBAMACARE

Monday, January 18th, 2010

So what do the American people think of the job President Obama is doing on health care?

According to a CBS News poll, 54% disapprove and only 36% approve.

I’m not surprised. The American people know that we can’t lower the cost of health care by creating mandates and fines. And the American people know that we have too much government involvement in health care already. The answer to health care reform comes from common sense ideas I’ve been pushing in Congress for years, like providing tax incentives to families to buy and own their own health care.

Obamacare is bad medicine. And the American people know it. That’s why I am continuing to fight against it in Washington.

Message from Kay: Standing Up To Barney Frank

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Dear Friends,

I am sick of all the Democrats’ government bailouts that haven’t
delivered on their big promises. I just learned about Democrat
Congressman Barney Frank’s new proposal today that includes both more
bloated bureaucracy and another new czar. It is called the Barney
Frank Bailout Bill and it smells exactly like all the other reckless
spending legislation Nancy Pelosi is pushing through Congress these
days.

You may not have heard about this bill yet. But the Democrats are
determined to pass it so I wanted to make sure you’re aware. As with
the government taking over our health care, this bill will take over
your personal finances. It is over 1200 pages long and creates a
permanent $200 billion bailout fund for financial lending institutions
which you will pay for in the form of fees handed down by your bank.

The czar created in this legislation will decide what credit products
you should be able to choose from. The legislation could increase
interest rates by 1.5% and will cost over 1 million jobs. Unless you
are a trial lawyer or a Washington bureaucrat there aren’t too many
upsides for consumers.
As always, please feel free to contact me on this issue or any others.

And please know that I am fighting hard against this expansion of government.

Sincerely,

Kay

Message from Kay: Exposing the Obama Claims About the Stimulus

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

As news reports continue to break about the flawed job numbers coming out of President Obama’s Recovery.gov stimulus website, I thought it would be interesting to see for myself how the government’s $18 million website is reporting the number of jobs “created or saved” in Texas from the trillion dollar stimulus that I voted against.

What I found was surprising:

According to Recovery.gov, $191,727,818 in stimulus money has been spent in the 12th district to “create or save” 625.5 jobs at a cost of $306,764 per job. But that’s not all. Recovery.gov also reports 30 jobs were “saved or created” in Texas’ 91stcongressional district. 45 jobs were saved for $3,659,964 in district 58, and 1 job was saved in the 68th district for $310,963. The problem is there are only 32 congressional districts in Texas.

When asked to explain why the stimulus information listed congressional districts that don’t exist, Ed Pound, spokesman for Recovery.gov, said, “Who knows, man?  Who really knows?”

How can we expect the administration to lead our economy into recovery when they take credit for spending $14,717,592 in congressional districts that don’t even exist?

Sincerely,

Kay

Congresswoman Granger Fights for the 2nd Amendment

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

This week, Congresswoman Kay Granger continued to provide leadership on the issue of protecting the rights of gun owners.  A longtime supporter of the Second Amendment, she signed an amicus curiae brief supporting the Second Amendment rights of all Americans.  The brief was filed in the upcoming Supreme Court case of McDonald v. City of Chicago. In signing the brief, Granger again stated her support for gun rights:

“By signing this brief, my colleagues and I are reiterating our support for the existing rights we, as Americans, hold to be sacred, and reminding the Supreme Court of those rights. The Second Amendment applies to all Americans. The government should respect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens throughout our country, regardless of where they live.”

Kay Granger Fighting Hard Against Democrats’ Health Care Plan

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Congresswoman Kay Granger is leading the fight in Washington to stop the Democrats from taking over the health care industry.

Here are the details of the House Democrats’ plan that Kay opposes:

  • $1.05 trillion total cost and 729.5 billion in tax hikes;
  • The creation of a Health Choices Commissioner – code words for a Health Care Czar;
  • Groups like ACORN, Planned Parenthood eligible for grants in bill through Health Care Czar;
  • And trial Lawyers receive “whistle blower” provisions creating a great environment to file lawsuits against employers.

Click here and read the plan for yourself and see if you agree with Congresswoman Granger that the House Democrats’ plan is bad medicine for America.
